The Buckminster Fuller Challenge, your entry must clearly convey how your solution exemplifies the trimtab principle and meets the Entry Criteria stated below:  trimtab principle. Trimtabs demonstrate how small amounts of energy and resources precisely applied at the right time and place can produce maximum advantageous change.  

1. Buckys Trimtab principal and Earth Balls Abodes (E.B.A.) are one in the same.
2. Why? In a small, water abode, we rode out the eyes of 2 hurricanes (Floyd in N.C. & George in Key West) where large amounts of power can be dealt with by small amounts of energy and resources precisely applied at the right time and place producing maximum advantageous change, with fine basic common sence design, pre-preparation, and nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
3. Also… We met personally with Mr. Fuller in 1969 Boston, M.I.T., he said, “ Think 10 / 100 / 500 / 1000 years ahead “. So we did/are!    

Comprehensive – A clear demonstration of holistic systems thinking. "Effective application of the principles of science to the conscious design of our total environment in order to help make the Earth's finite resources meet the needs of all humanity without disrupting the ecological processes of the planet.”  

NOTE 1:  Our End Result… Build, Use, then help others, create individual units and/or mass produce the three kinds of E.Bs. (Earth Ball s)

Bottom line thinking behind E.B.A., E.B.- G.H. and 16 Support E.B.s.  

1. A Way to address Global Warming and Climit Change.
2. A new way to live on Earth, grow food, work, raise a family and travel OUR Earth COMMUNITY, without polluting much… if any.  

NOTE 2: The Differences, Between a Dome and Sphere Home. Both R Great, But…  

1. Dome homes are attached to OUR Earth – Round Homes are Not. They sit/float a-top Earth on legs on land or water.
2. Round, Globe, E.B.As. can be moved, floated, rolled, pulled with attached wheel set up. (See enclosed pictures)
3. Think E.B.As. In, New Orleans, flood prone areas, Island Countries, India, Africa, U.S.A. mountain areas. 
4. Round homes give Storage Space below living space and Seat Belted Chairs to ride out (worst case scenario) 100 year, wicked big storms.  

NOTE: OUR, E.B. Lifestyle

1. E.B. lifestyle will help end all war on OUR Earth.
2. Why? When E.Cs. (Earth Citizens) from families around OUR Earth are traveling in their E.B.A.s. WE won’t be able to have wars without blowing up/killing our family, friends, neighbors who will be traveling all over OUR Earth.
3. Earth Ball Abodes and G.H. will evolve, be built out of the most benign elements on earth.
4. E.B.A. can be mass produced locally, from easily available materials.
5. E.B.A. & G.H. are designed to enhance OUR environment and pollute very little.
6. The lifestyle that accompanies E.B.A. & G.H. by necessity is… helpful, giving, prepared, observant, saving, low energy usage, high fun filled, adventurous, conservative, liberal and very “cool”.
7. E.B.A. lifestyle will (NOT) promote money as the # 1 motivation of daily work, and most everything. Wrong life motivations that includes the destruction of OUR natural world, animate and inanimate objects, Earth-Things that are by right granted 2 all of us to protect. Simply by being alive and OWNED by all of humanity in common.
8. IN CASE OF FIRE or STORMS… Earth Ball Abodes and Greenhouses (1. FLOAT), (2. R relatively EASY to MOVE in case of emergency or 4 fun/travel), (3. are FIRE Retardant) and (4. Can be TIED securely 2 whatever is at hand in preparation 4 tsunami, wind, on land or water).
9. Food, medical care and the home itself will be available & secure… during and after hurricane/storms/cyclone, when homes, medical care and food R most needed.
10. E.B.A. heating and cooling are accomplished the same as in most any home.

Anticipatory — projectively tracking critical trends and needs; identifying and assessing long term consequences of proposed solutions.  

The underlining ideas of Earth Ball Abodes & Greenhouses are many. They R far reaching, not only to our individual and collective outside self, but also for our innate inside awareness and spiritual well being.  

Ecologically responsible — reflective and supportive of nature's underlying processes, patterns and principles.

E.B.A. offer and create a place/way to live & grow-food on Earth, without killing our home planet. Think of E.B.A. ideas on/in poor and rich neighborhoods (city or rural) of our earth; and how OUR natural resources will flourish and not be destroyed by US, simply to sustain life.

Verifiable — able to withstand rigorous Empirical testing. Empirical provable or verifiable by experience or experiment depending upon experience or observation alone, without using scientific method or theory, esp.  

Related Experiences of Roger Drowne E.C. to emphasize, Being – Doing simple Love.

1. Born in 1941 while wars raged on earth, I created my first small self contained home in my teens, ripping out the trunk and back seat of a 1947 Nash Rambler car and built in a bed, cooler 4 food and a poop can.

2. My second small inexpensive homes were created in my 20ies and 30ies with others of all ages and races - we build 7 + self contained, small homes, of mostly logs (Hippie Abodes). We lived for years in these homes in the hills of Vermont. All were built 4 less than $ 3000.00 with wind generators 12-volt power systems.

4. The next adventure in creating low cost, self contained, livable homes was to set a cabin a-top a 20-foot fiberglass boat hull base, bought for $ 200.00.

4a. Adding two 20 foot pontoons, aircraft fuel drop tanks, re-enforced with a few layers of fiberglass were attached on each side of the hull with 4 X 6 beams and then a cabin built a-top the hull.

4b. We added solar panels, refrigerator, compost toilet, shower, rain water collection system, kitchen, full size bed, heater and fans 4 air conditioning.

4c. We traveled parts of OUR Earth and lived on/in this water abode 4 three years. (total costs about $ 6,000.00 including 9.9 H.P. Honda O.B.E.)

4d. Being self contained we anchored out in nature, always. (shore power was not needed).

Replicable — capable of being readily undertaken by others.  

E.B.A. R Designed to be Replicated. The basic (hull) 14 foot Earth Ball Abode with windows, doors, legs, etc are designed to be built one at a time or (Henry-Ford-ed) massed produced in local communities by E.Cs. Thus providing jobs/work of many diverse kinds for E.Cs. In the surrounding area/community.   

Achievable — likely to be implemented successfully and broadly adopted.  

There are homeless people all over OUR planet with no way to grow food, normally or hydroponically in greenhouses. Thus… they pollute and destroy OUR environment by necessity.  

Within the context of these criteria, please address the following:

Describe the problem(s) you intend to solve…

1. Living in E.B.A. (as close to nature, OUR natural world, as possible) is good for all life… Teaching and learning about our Earth and what’s on it, exploring it, being in it, to enjoy what is, here and now. NOW.
2. The opposite is the direction OUR world is now on, the way of (WAR – KILLING OUR ENVIRONMENT of GLOBAL SUICIDE) creating un-needed stuff apart from nature.

And/or the preferred state you intend to achieve.

Think ROUND… Think they FLOAT; this is about creating Round, Inclusive, 14-foot Earth Ball Homes, 10 foot E.B. Greenhouses and 16 small 3 to 36 inch, Support Earth Balls. See (www.EarthBall.org)

E.B.A. that are Self-Contained, Strong, Comfortable, Energy Efficient, Low Pollution, 10 to 18 foot in diameter.

THINK boat, motor home, without an engine.

NOTE: (14 foot is the projected size of this first E.B.A. and 10 foot diameter Greenhouse, prototypes projected, grant applied 4).

The creation of 16 small (three to 38 inch) very strong, fiberglass (or its equivalent) air tight, support, Earth Balls (that also float) to house supplies like, stove, water maker, fire starter kit, communication, computer, entertainment E-ball, energy-solar-panels power ball, etc) that are all a part of each E.B.A. unit.

The most important questions asked us and the answerer is...

R U (personally) going to live in an E.B.A.?  

YES, we are going to pay 4, live in an E.B.A. use the greenhouse to grow food and work to create and share the lifestyle, etc.  

Describe how you will finance your solution and make it economically viable. Cost 2 create these E.B.A. & G.H. / How grant will B spent.

Dependent on ones ability, E.B.A. owners will pay the low mortgage rate for their E.B.A. Thus replenishing E.B. G.H. & 16 Suppot E.Bs. Global Mortgage revolving loan E.C. World Bank, that will be set up.

Costs to build E.B.A. will be about  $ 20.000.00… financed over 20 years, (the life of a fiberglass or other up & coming N.A.S.A. materials) E.B.A. should be around for hundreds of years with a minimum of up-keep and resources needed to sustain, repair and operate.

Our First estimate, ($ 15.000.00 Bottom Line, is what we hope the final mass produced Basic, 1. E.B. 1. E.B. Greenhouse and 16. support E.D. will cost.)

Prototypes estimate... ($ 60.000.00 for -  1, Earth Ball Abode, 1, E.B. Green House, and 16, Support E.Bs.)

This leaves us about $ 40.000.00 for work space (hopefully donated), professional labor (also hopefully donated) to accomplish specific tasks such as, jigs, forms, molds, etc. and tools, food, costs for labor (also hopefully donated).

We expect 75 % of labor to be donated by Family, Friends, Earth Citizens around OUR Earth. People / E.Cs. like U. & I - will personally be donating all my time, past, present and future.

My life 2 date and time spent as a “starving artist” will now become, important, necessary, critical to keep expenses to a minimum.

We will also hire and/or have donated, video, audio and other editing & documentation, teams.

Documentation of… Written mixtures, welding techniques, etc. records will be kept of materials used 4 replication, future reference, etc. with future, mass production molds, building methods, professional, self-made, and community built, available to all E.Cs. All over OUR Earth.

All information will be shared, translated and available to (All) Earth Citizens using OUR web site that is NOW up and running here... (www.EarthBall.org)
